How the line builder works
A hockey lineup runs three or four forward lines of left wing, center, and right wing, plus two or three defense pairs. This tool lets you build those combinations the same way a coach does on a whiteboard — but faster, and with a copy button.
The auto-balance option uses your skill ratings to snake-draft players across lines, so your first line isn't four ringers while the third line drowns. Captains use it before games; coaches use it for tryouts and practice groups.
Nothing is uploaded and there is no account — your roster lives in your browser. When you copy the lineup, you get clean text formatted for a group chat or team email.

- Most teams dress 4 forward lines (12 forwards), 3 defense pairs (6 defensemen), and 2 goalies. Beer league teams often run 3 forward lines and 2–3 defense pairs depending on who shows up.
- What makes a good line combination?
- Balance and chemistry. Spread your strongest players across lines so every shift can compete, pair a playmaker with a finisher, and keep at least one defensively responsible player on each line.
