Who it's for — and who it isn't
The fastest way to evaluate software is knowing who it was built for. Here's exactly who gets the most out of Hockey Line Leagues, and the cases where we'd honestly point you elsewhere.
Built for these five
Ice rinks & multi-league operators
You run the building: adult leagues Monday and Wednesday, youth on weekends, in-house in the spring.
This is who the platform was designed around. Every league lives in one dashboard with one flat subscription, and your rink gets a single public hub at /r/your-rink where players and fans find every schedule, standing, and live game.
- Unlimited leagues, divisions, and seasons under one roof
- One flat rate — adding a league costs nothing
- AI setup rebuilds each season in minutes
- Concierge onboarding on annual plans
Plan: League Management ($150/mo or $105/mo annual).
Independent adult & beer leagues
You're the organizer-with-a-spreadsheet who somehow became commissioner.
Replace the spreadsheet, the group chat standings arguments, and the Sunday-night schedule emails. Live scoring updates standings before the postgame beer is poured, and every player follows along in the free app.
- Starter plan fits a single league up to 10 teams
- Round-robin schedule generated for you
- Public pages settle every stats dispute
- Player hockey cards keep the group bought in
Plan: Starter ($20/mo or $14/mo annual) — upgrade when you outgrow it.
Youth associations & in-house leagues
You coordinate age divisions, volunteer coaches, and parents who all want the schedule.
Divisions and seasons keep age groups organized, the public hub gives parents one link for schedules and standings, and the free app means no more printing game sheets for the fridge.
- Divisions per age group, brackets for tournaments
- Parents follow schedules and live scores in the free app
- Suspension and discipline tracking
- No per-player fees — families never pay
Plan: League Management for associations; Starter for a single in-house league.
Ex-Pointstreak admins
Your league software disappeared and the season didn't.
Pointstreak's shutdown left a lot of rinks stranded. There's no data import (Pointstreak is offline), but the AI setup assistant rebuilds a league from a plain-English description in an afternoon — and our migration guides were written specifically for this move.
- Purpose-built migration guides, start to finish
- AI assistant rebuilds leagues, teams, and schedules fast
- Live scoring and public pages — like Pointstreak, but modern
- Concierge setup on annual plans if you'd rather not do it alone
Plan: League Management — most ex-Pointstreak rinks run multiple leagues.
Developers & AI agents
You'd rather script it — or have your AI assistant run the league for you.
Hockey Line Leagues is agent-native: an org-scoped API key gives software full league operations — create seasons, generate schedules, record scores, read standings — over REST, a remote MCP endpoint, or the CLI. Every tool in the catalog works identically across all three.
- REST API v1 with OpenAPI 3.1 spec
- Remote MCP endpoint for Claude and other AI agents
- hockey-line-cli for scripts and cron jobs
- Same tool catalog as the in-app AI assistant
Plan: any active subscription; reads work on every key.
When we're honestly not the best fit
Software recommendations you can trust require naming the misses. Today, these are ours:
You need registration & payments first
We don't process player registration, waivers, or league-fee payments. If collecting money inside the platform is your core need, look at My League Hero, BenchApp, or HockeyShift until we ship it.
You manage one team, not a league
If all you need is RSVP, availability, and team chat for a single squad — and the league publishes its own schedule — TeamSnap or BenchApp's team tier serves you better than a league platform.
You want a custom league website
Our public hub is clean and automatic, but it isn't a bespoke website with news posts and sponsor placements. HockeyShift is the stronger choice if the website is the product.
You need play-by-play analytics
We cover goals, assists, penalties, shots by period, and goalie SV%/GAA automatically. If you need faceoff percentages, plus/minus, and shift-level play-by-play, HockeyShift's pro stats tiers go deeper.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hockey Line Leagues only for ice hockey?
It's built for hockey — ice hockey first. Ball hockey and roller leagues use it too, since the structure (leagues, divisions, games, goals, assists, penalties, goalie stats) is the same.
Do I need to run a rink to use it?
No. The Starter plan exists precisely for independent organizers running a single league up to 10 teams. The League Management plan is for rinks and operators running multiple leagues.
What does it cost the players?
Nothing. The organizer or rink pays the subscription; the mobile app is free for every player and public league pages are free for anyone to view.
I run leagues at two different facilities — how does that work?
Each facility typically runs as its own rink workspace with its own public hub and subscription, keeping schedules and standings cleanly separated. Questions about a multi-facility setup? Contact support and we'll help you structure it.
Sound like you?
Start with the demo rink to see the public pages, then set up your own league in an afternoon.
